What qualifies as a small business in NYS?

In New York, Section 131 of the Economic Development Law defines a small business as having fewer than 100 employees and independently owning and operating.

 

Do you need a business license to start a business in NY?

New York requires all businesses operating under a business name to register as a legal entity to operate a business. Limited liability companies (LLCs) and corporations must register with the state.
