Gouverneur Chamber's BOCES Student of the Month

Each month, the Gouverneur Chamber recognizes a student who is studying an aspect of business at St. Lawrence/Lewis BOCES, (Board Of Cooperative Educational Services) located in nearby Fowler, NY. The school serves eighteen school districts in St. Lawrence and Lewis Counties, NY.

The BOCES system provides cost-effective shared services, including career training for high-school students and adults, special education, alternative schools, technology education and teacher training, as well as dozens of programs to expand educational opportunity.

The Student of the Month award is sponsored by the Gouverneur Chamber of Commerce. The award is presented to those students whose efforts are of the highest caliber.

Student of the Month

Lilah Stephenson

Criminal Justice

Lilah Stephenson, daughter of Christopher Stephenson and Kyleigh Clement has been selected as the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month at Southwest Tech (SLL BOCES) for November 2025.

Lilah is a senior at Harrisville Central School and is enrolled in the Criminal Justice II Program at Southwest Career & Technical Education Center. Lilah consistently exemplifies the qualities of an exceptional student and positive role model to her peers. Lilah’s work is always completed on time and with strong proficiency. She regularly takes on additional assignments, going above and beyond expectations. She uses her time effectively, demonstrates a strong work ethic, and eagerness to learn.

Beyond the classroom, Lilah is actively involved in her community and school. She is a member of the Harrisville soccer and softball teams, demonstrating leadership, dedication and sportsmanship. Lilah also contributes to the Green Team, donating her time to roadside clean-up efforts. She enjoys fishing and camping in her free time.

At Southwest Career and Technical center Lilah is a proud member of SkillsUSA, further showcasing her commitment to leadership, service and career readiness. After graduating Lilah plans to pursue a degree in forestry at Paul Smith’s College with the goal of becoming a Department of Environmental Conservation officer.

Haylee Bullock

Education & Human Services

Haylee Bullock is this month’s Southwest Career and Technical Education Center’s Student of the Month. Haylee, the daughter of Richard & Samantha Bullock, is a senior from Edwards Knox High School in the Education & Human Services Program at SWT.

Haylee is a kind, intelligent, motivated self-starter. She has a strong aptitude for teaching children. Haylee is industrious and consistently produces high quality projects. She is eager to assist her classmates, host teachers and students in her host classrooms. Haylee is a high achiever in every sense of the word.

She is a member of the National Technical Honor Society and Student Government. Outside the classroom Haylee enjoys playing soccer and volunteering her time with the youth soccer programs during the winter and summer months. Haylee plans to attend SUNY Potsdam for Early Childhood Education after graduating from high school this June.

Sarah Sibley

Culinary Arts II

Sarah Sibley, daughter of Charles Sibley has been selected as the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month at Southwest Tech (SLL BOCES) for October 2025.

Sarah is a senior at Gouverneur Central School and is enrolled in the Culinary Arts II Program at Southwest Career & Technical Education Center.

Sarah is a reliable student that exhibits a positive attitude and is always prepared and eager to learn. She demonstrates professionalism, teamwork, and strives to do her very best in the kitchen and classroom. Her dedication to learning is matched by her grace in accepting feedback and using it to grow in the culinary field.

Sarah is also a member of her high school cheerleading team and softball team. Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her siblings, caring for her animals and watching movies. After high school Sarah plans to join the workforce.

Logan White

Heavy Equipment Operations

Logan White is this month’s Southwest Career and Technical Education Center’s Student of the Month. Logan, the son of Lawrence & Bridget White, is a senior from Edwards Knox High School in the Heavy Equipment Operations Program at SWT.

Logan is a dedicated student that has a strong knowledge of the heavy equipment field. He comes to class with a positive attitude and eager to learn. Logan is dependable, responsible and is always willing to assist classmates. He is a positive role model for other students in the program and respectful toward his peers and staff.

Logan is an honor roll student at both Edwards Knox and Southwest Tech. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing and helping his grandfather with maple sugaring. After high school Logan’s goal is to own his own landscaping business and obtain his CDL.

Malique Zeller

Electrical Technology

Malique Zeller is this month’s Southwest Career and Technical Education Center’s Student of the Month. Malique, the grandson of, Claudette Alvez & Michael Ward is a senior from Gouverneur High School in the Electrical Technology Program at SWT.

Malique is a standout student in the Electrical Technology class. He consistently demonstrates a strong work ethic, excels academically, and is never afraid to take on a challenge. Malique actively participates in our SkillsUSA competitions, showcasing both his skills and dedication to the field. He is also a reliable and supportive peer, always ready to lend a helping hand. His enthusiasm for Electrical Technology makes him a true asset to the program.

Malique is the Vice President of SkillsUSA at SWT and a member of the Gouverneur High School senior senate. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, trapping, being outdoors and spending time with his friends. After graduation Malique plans to attend SUNY Canton for Electrical Construction and Maintenance.

Antonio Calbo

Metalworking

Antonio Calbo is this month’s Southwest Career and Technical Education Center’s Student of the Month. Antonio, the son of Vanessa Calbo, is a senior from Gouverneur High School in the Metalworking Program at SWT.

Antonio is a team player who works exceptionally well with peers and staff. He is a pleasure to work with due to his easy-going nature, and he brings a positive attitude to any situation. No matter the challenge, Antonio sees the bright side and approaches tasks with confidence and enthusiasm. Antonio is reliable, responsible, dedicated and always delivers outstanding results. He is a student his instructors can always count on, no matter what the job.

Antonio is a member of the Gouverneur High School Chorus. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, hunting, swimming and being outdoors. He enjoys spending quality time with his family and friends. Antonio plans to enter the workforce after graduating from high school this June.
