Gouverneur Chamber's BOCES Student of the Month

Each month, the Gouverneur Chamber recognizes a student who is studying an aspect of business at St. Lawrence/Lewis BOCES, (Board Of Cooperative Educational Services) located in nearby Fowler, NY. The school serves eighteen school districts in St. Lawrence and Lewis Counties, NY.

The BOCES system provides cost-effective shared services, including career training for high-school students and adults, special education, alternative schools, technology education and teacher training, as well as dozens of programs to expand educational opportunity.

The Student of the Month award is sponsored by the Gouverneur Chamber of Commerce. The award is presented to those students whose efforts are of the highest caliber.

Avery Dion

Culinary Arts II

Avery Dion, daughter of Benjamin Dion and granddaughter of Lori Ganley has been selected as the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month at Southwest Tech (SLL BOCES) for April 2025.

Avery is a senior at Hermon-DeKalb Central School and is enrolled in the Culinary Arts II Program at Southwest Career & Technical Education Center.

Avery exhibits a positive attitude and is always willing to help others. She comes to class eager to learn and uses her time effectively. She is dependable, responsible and ready to take on any task. Avery’s effort and enthusiasm in the kitchen does not go unnoticed.

She is also a member of her high school band and has been recognized for her musicianship in All County and Area All State Bands. Outside of school, Avery works at McDonalds and enjoys cooking at home with her grandmother. Avery has been accepted at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY where she plans to attend in the fall.

Logan Beachard

Automotive

Logan Beachard, son of Daniel Beachard & Jeannie Bradish has been selected as the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month at Southwest Tech (SLL BOCES) for February 2025.

Logan is a senior at Edwards-Knox Central School and is enrolled in the Automotive II Program at Southwest Career & Technical Education Center.

Logan is a very dedicated student who has a strong knowledge of the automotive field. He comes to class eager to learn and uses his time effectively. He is dependable, responsible, and is always willing to assist classmates. He is a positive role model for other students in the automotive program and respectful toward his peers and staff.

Logan is a member of the National Technical Honor Society at Southwest Tech. He is currently employed at Blevins Ford in Gouverneur where he plans to continue employment after graduation.

Antonio Calbo

Metalworking

Antonio Calbo is this month’s Southwest Career and Technical Education Center’s Student of the Month. Antonio, the son of Vanessa Calbo, is a senior from Gouverneur High School in the Metalworking Program at SWT.

Antonio is a team player who works exceptionally well with peers and staff. He is a pleasure to work with due to his easy-going nature, and he brings a positive attitude to any situation. No matter the challenge, Antonio sees the bright side and approaches tasks with confidence and enthusiasm. Antonio is reliable, responsible, dedicated and always delivers outstanding results. He is a student his instructors can always count on, no matter what the job.

Antonio is a member of the Gouverneur High School Chorus. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, hunting, swimming and being outdoors. He enjoys spending quality time with his family and friends. Antonio plans to enter the workforce after graduating from high school this June.

Breannah Markwick

Cosmetology II

Breannah Markwick, daughter of Casey McBroom and Jonathan Markwick has been selected as the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month at Southwest Tech (SLL BOCES) for January 2025.

Breannah is a senior at Gouverneur Central School and is enrolled in the Cosmetology II Program at Southwest Career & Technical Education Center.

Breannah comes to class each day prepared and eager to learn. She never turns down a challenge; rather she embraces them and succeeds. She maintains an outstanding grade point average, has excellent attendance and demonstrates exceptional work ethic. She conducts herself in a very professional manner and treats everyone with a great deal of dignity and respect. She is well rounded in her interests and activities, in and out of school. She has the ability to gracefully balance school work, family, social activities, sports and community service events as well as spending time horseback riding.

Breannah has a very bright future ahead of her and is truly a pleasure having in class. Upon completion of the Cosmetology program she will be prepared and eligible for the New York State Board licensing exam. She has also been accepted to Suny Canton majoring in Veterinary Science.

Reese Cox

Pharmacy Tech

Reese Cox, daughter of Geremy & Adrienne Cox has been selected as the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month at Southwest Tech (SLL BOCES) for March 2025. Reese is a Gouverneur Central School senior enrolled in the Pharmacy Tech Program at Southwest Career & Technical Education Center.

Reese is an exceptional student and role model for her classmates. She is always on task, eager to learn, responsible, hardworking, and has excellent attendance. Reese exhibits a strong interest in the medical field, as she completed the Nurse Assisting program last year and passed her certification exam to become a Certified Nurse Assistant. Reese plans to attend college to become a Registered Nurse.

Aiden Hollinger

Digital Media Design

Aiden Hollinger, son of Alicia Tiernan and Jesse Hollinger has been selected as the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month at Southwest Tech (SLL BOCES) for December 2024.

Aiden is a senior at Hermon-DeKalb Central School and is enrolled in the Digital Media Design II Program at Southwest Career & Technical Education Center.

Aiden is an exceptional student and is a role model for his fellow classmates. He is a talented, hard worker with a positive attitude. He is always eager to learn and help others when they need it. Aiden has recently been accepted to Suny Canton.
