Our Mission

Friends 4 Pound Paws Inc, (F4PP) was established in May of 2011, by a group of concerned citizens hoping to save the forgotten ones, our local pound dogs. We began with a simple desire to give the pound dogs a second chance at life. Our rescue has since blossomed into an actual shelter, housing dogs and cats in need of homes. Our mission has always been to help the sick and homeless animals of our community.

Our Origin

We receive no state or federal money to operate our facility, unless we qualify for specific state or federal grants.  Donations, grants, memorials, bequests and fund-raising efforts are our sole sources of income. All donations are tax deductible. With the help of our dedicated volunteers and community support, over 150 cats were adopted in 2020, 70 dog adoptions and 20 transfers to partner shelters. Although our facility is not large, we can house up to 40 cats and 6 to 10 dogs depending on size.  We do still utilize Foster Homes when available.

The first two animals we were able to pull from our local dog pound were Freddie a Chihuahua and Buella a pit bull. Both dogs we’re in need of medical care, so we had to raise some funds! We started with a donation jar at our local village Farmers Market and raised enough money for healthcare, vaccinations and spay and neuter of both these dogs. So here we are 10 years later, with a shelter, an adoption program, an amazing Veterinary Staff at Northland Veterinary Hospital in Gouverneur, NY and many dedicated volunteers.
