Gouverneur Chamber's BOCES Student of the Month
Each month, the Gouverneur Chamber recognizes a student who is studying an aspect of business at St. Lawrence/Lewis BOCES, (Board Of Cooperative Educational Services) located in nearby Fowler, NY. The school serves eighteen school districts in St. Lawrence and Lewis Counties, NY.
The BOCES system provides cost-effective shared services, including career training for high-school students and adults, special education, alternative schools, technology education and teacher training, as well as dozens of programs to expand educational opportunity.


The Student of the Month award is sponsored by the Gouverneur Chamber of Commerce. The award is presented to those students whose efforts are of the highest caliber.

Emalyn Kulp
Certified Nurse Assistant
Emalyn Kulp, daughter of Robert and Kristy Kulp has been selected as the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month at Southwest Tech (BOCES) for March 2023.
Emalyn is a senior at Gouverneur Central School and is enrolled in the Certified Nurse Assistant Program at Southwest Tech.
Emalyn is an exceptional student. She maintains an outstanding grade point average and has excellent attendance. Emalyn is always willing to help her classmates. She has shown responsibility and great work ethic at clinical and has applied for the National Technical Honor Society. Emalyn has a wonder future ahead and hopes to become a Nurse Practitioner.

Daniel Thomas
Metalworking Technology
Daniel Thomas, son of Michael & Keirsten Thomas and Heather Way has been selected as the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month at Southwest Tech (BOCES) for January 2023.
Daniel is a senior at Gouverneur Central School and is enrolled in the Metalworking Technology II Program at Southwest Tech.
Daniel is energetic, determined to be successful and is able to deal with new or difficult situations. He is particular about his work as well as time management. Daniel has leadership qualities that allows him to be respectful and helpful towards his peers. He is also a member of our Skills USA group here at Southwest Tech. Any employers would be lucky to have Daniel join their team.

Building Trades
Nolan Reed, son of Troy and Stacey Reed, has been selected as the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month at Southwest Tech (BOCES) for February 2023.
Nolan is a Gouverneur Central School senior enrolled in the Building Trades II Program at Southwest Tech.
Nolan conducts himself professionally and studiously. He is eager to learn and benefits from criticism. Nolan works well in a group or individually with a positive attitude. He is confident in his work and is always willing to assist others. Nolan will be an asset to any future employer. He is always the first and last working.

Elisabeth Porter, daughter of Cynthia Porter has been selected as the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month at Southwest Tech (BOCES) for December 2022.
Elisabeth is a senior at Gouverneur Central School and is enrolled in the Graphic Communications II Program at Southwest Tech.
Beth is a talented, hard working student. She always completes her work on time and it is of the highest quality. Beth works well with others and is a leader in our class.

Ethan Alguire, son of Brayton and Dana Alguire has been selected as the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month at Southwest Tech (BOCES) for January 2023.
Ethan is a senior at Gouverneur Central School and is enrolled in the Automotive Technology II Program at Southwest Tech.
Ethan is a pleasure to have in class. He is always prepared for class, eager to learn and uses time effectively.
Ethan is a dependable, polite student and is always willing to help others. He is confident and shows interest in the Automotive field. Ethan has a great work ethic and would make a great addition to any employment opportunity that comes his way.

Alexandra McDougall
Education & Human Service II
Alexandra McDougall, daughter of Jamie and Sandra McDougall has been selected as the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month at Southwest Tech (BOCES) for November 2022.
Alexandra is a senior at Gouverneur Central School and is enrolled in the Education & Human Service II Program at Southwest Tech.
Alex is a student who is always eager to learn, willing to help, and shows a great deal of compassion for others. Even when facing a challenge, she maintains a positive attitude and perseveres to accomplish the task at hand. Her enthusiasm has made her a very popular addition to the kindergarten classroom where she has worked during the recent marking period, applying her skills acquired in the classroom to hands on learning opportunities.
Her strong academic performance and community involvement has recently earned her candidacy for National Technical Honor Society membership at Southwest Tech. Alex possesses many characteristics that will continue to make her an asset to the Education & Human Services field, as she continues her studies to pursue a career in child psychology.
